Jesus Christ warned His followers to be watchful for signs of the end times, events and conditions that would precede His return. In Scriptures like Matthew 24 and Luke 21, He spoke of wars, natural disasters, pandemics, and moral decline as “the beginning of birth pains” (Matthew 24:8). Today, as we scan headlines of international conflict, earthquakes, floods, violence, and tragedy, many believers recognize these very patterns. Today’s events mirror prophecy. Moreover, in these turbulent times, God is raising up women of faith to be modern Deboras and Esthers. We will reflect on how biblical heroines like Deborah, Esther, the wise virgins, and Mary Magdalene model intercession, holiness, discipleship, and bold gospel witness as we prepare for Christ’s return. Let these signs and stories not incite fear, but inspire faith and readiness for the Lord’s coming.

Deception & False Teaching
“For many will come in My name…and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:5).
A surge of misinformation, conspiracy theories on social media, and moral confusion is spreading. Even within churches, teachings downplay sin and embrace worldly values. For example, the rise of prosperity gospel movements and the normalization of relativism are leading souls away from absolute truth.

Wars & Rumors of War
“You will hear of wars…and rumors of wars” (Matthew 24:6).
Two thousand years ago, Jesus prophesied turmoil: “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars… Nation will rise against nation.” This is evident today, particularly with the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war, which began on February 24, 2022, leading to significant casualties and over 8 million refugees. Similarly, tensions between Israel and Iran, marked by airstrikes and threats, echo Jesus’ warnings and align with Old Testament prophecies. While direct conflict hasn’t erupted, many Christians view this as a foreshadowing of future wars. Additionally, conflicts in Syria, Yemen, and nuclear threats contribute to this atmosphere of unrest. Jesus reminded us that “such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” Believers are called to respond with prayer for peace and spiritual strength, understanding prophecy should inspire holy living and faith, rather than despair.

Famines, Earthquakes & Pestilences
“Famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places” (Matthew 24:7).
Jesus identified natural disasters and disease as signs of the end times, stating, “There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences” (Luke 21:11). Recent events seem to echo these prophecies. The February 6, 2023, magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria killed over 60,000—its devastation reminiscent of biblical calamities. In the past two decades, major earthquakes have struck Haiti, Japan, and Nepal, reflecting what Jesus described as “birth pains” of increasing intensity.
Additionally, famines and diseases are on the rise. Climate extremes and conflict in Africa and Asia have led to famine-like conditions, while the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in an estimated 7 million confirmed deaths, highlighting life’s fragility. Jesus instructed, “do not be alarmed,” urging compassion and hope during such crises. Extreme weather events also align with biblical predictions. The 2022 monsoon floods in Pakistan affected 33 million people, while a catastrophic flood in Derna, Libya, in September 2023 killed thousands. These occurrences leave nations perplexed and may signal the Lord’s return. Each quake and storm should prompt believers to expect a new world, inspiring action to help victims and share Christ’s comfort.

Persecution of Believers
“You will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake” (Matthew 24:9).
Christians face growing persecution globally, from intimidation in parts of Africa and Asia to restrictions in secular societies. Believers are being jailed, attacked, and silenced simply for holding biblical convictions.

Love Grows Cold, Lawlessness Rises
“Because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12).
A hallmark of the end times is a surge in violence and moral decay. Jesus warned that increased lawlessness would lead to hearts growing cold (Matthew 24:12). Our generation has witnessed alarming violence, particularly in the epidemic of mass shootings. In the U.S., these tragedies, such as the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, have devastated communities, leaving families heartbroken. In 2022 alone, nearly 650 mass shootings occurred, resulting in over 44,000 deaths from gun violence. Such rampant bloodshed exemplifies a loss of moral control, with many perpetrators driven by anger and nihilism (2 Timothy 3:3). Amid this violence, Jesus encourages us not to be alarmed. By anchoring our hope in Christ and spreading His love, we can counteract this spirit of violence, mentoring youth, caring for the broken, and standing as peacemakers to prevent our hearts from growing cold.

The Gospel Reaches All Nations
“…this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world…and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14).
Digital platforms, Bible apps, online ministries, and global missions are bringing the Gospel to remote regions. The message reaches unreached people groups faster than ever, signaling the coming fulfilment of this prophetic mandate.
The Role of Women: Midwives in the Birth Pangs
The world is groaning—and God is calling spiritual women to anticipate, prepare, and respond. Just as midwives guide birth, women are called to carry spiritual truth, birth transformation, and sustain hope. Urgent roles include:
- Intercessors on the Wall (Isaiah 62:6): Praying nationwide and in global crises.
- Keepers of the Flame (Matt. 25): Staying spiritually lit.
- Discipleship Mentors (Titus 2): Guiding younger sisters.
- Evangelists of Hope (Psalm 68:11): Sharing Christ freely.
- Holy Examples (Phil. 2:14–15): Shining in a self-serving world.
Be Found Faithful and Ready
The signs are unmistakable: earthquakes, war, violence, deception, and hunger are all around us. Yet, amid chaos, God is calling women to rise as spiritually alert, loving, and courageous servants.
Dear sister, now is not the time for fear, it’s the time for faith.
“Blessed is that servant whom the Master finds doing so when He returns.” (Matthew 24:46)
Let us stand ready, not just for our own sake, but as shining beacons that reveal Christ in dark times. Let us pray, lead, teach, serve, love, and shine, because He is coming soon.
